Matching Blog Redesign Complete

Earlier we mentioned the website redesign plan phase two for our blog to match the new look, color scheme, and navigation of the main site. It’s done, so what you see done in WordPress is what you get. We look forward to the growth as our California general contractor website and blog continues to expand.

New content on the main site will be announced on the blog soon, including project photographs and more examples of home improvement kitchen and bathroom remodels. Visitors are welcome to submit inquiries for any and all other residential or commercial construction work in Orange or Los Angeles County, too.

New Regulations Regarding Lead Paint

Keeping up on news for contractors in construction is very important to know what is allowed. A new regulation regarding lead paint is soon going into effect.

The rule requires that contractors and maintenance professionals be certified, their employees be trained, and that they follow protective work practice standards.

These standards prohibit certain dangerous practices, such as torching or open flame burning of lead-based paint and also include mandatory posting of warning signs, containing work areas to prevent dust and debris from spreading, restricting occupants from work areas, conducting a thorough cleanup, and verifying that the cleanup was effective. If a house, child-care facility or school was built before 1978, the contractor must be certified to be able to do any work. The rule will be fully effective by April 2010.

Good Advice From 100+ Years Ago

Good advice to follow when choosing a contractor:

“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything; because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the job it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. It cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run; and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”– John Ruskin (1819-1900)
